4 Things Every Tween, Teen and Toddler Want to Know

This week my oldest daughter, Alena, will turn 11! Just a few nights ago I watched in awe as she led us in a family devotion. As she finished reading the selected passages, she glanced in my direction for approval. She wanted to know if she did it right. If I approved and if I liked what she shared.

I looked at my husband and said, “I can’t believe we’ve kept her alive.”

He nodded in agreement.  We are both so proud of her!

I love moments like these when I get a peek into the beautiful woman of character, quality and compassion she is becoming. However, it is also moments like these when I get glimpses of the toddler she used to be–a combination of bravery and uncertainty. A reality we each face.

I am reminded often that in spite of me and my many flaws as a parent, She is His and His Word has everything she needs. In every situation.  Forever.

I pray she will continue to grow in confidence, but every so often a glance in my direction let’s me know that the daughter inside of her longs for approval.

When insecurities come, and I am not around to smile with pride, I pray she remembers God’s truth.

1. Am I enough?

Titus 3:5

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.

2. Am I special?

Psalms 139:14

I will give thanks to You, For I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.

3. Am I beautiful?

Genesis 1:27

God Created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

4. Is it okay that I am different than you?

1 Corinthians 12:4 and 11

4 Now there are varieties of gifts but the same Spirit.

11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
