A Baby Just Like You

Chomp on this!

If you were God, how would you have come to the world?

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:11,12 NIV).

I think if I were God, I’d come with lightning or thunder. Something that’s loud, bright, spectacular—and just a little bit scary. Instead, God became a baby, born in the middle of the night when everyone was sleeping. Doesn’t that sound like a weird way to save the world?

Because of the gap between us and God, we can’t lift ourselves up to him, so he decided to become a baby and bring himself down to us. He could have picked any way—maybe even the way you thought you’d do it. Still, he chose to become a baby, a baby who needed feeding and holding, who needed to learn how to walk and talk. He was a baby like you, except that he was nothing like you. He was perfect and holy. He was God with us.

This is the way God chooses to give us heaven.

God sent Jesus—his only Son—as a baby, just like you!

Jesus—who came to be perfect and holy—lived so that we can be called God’s child, just like him!
