A Bad Habit

I have a bad habit.  I eat late at night, and we’re not talking vegetables!! I know better, but I do it anyway.

That’s the nature of a bad habit, we know it’s bad, but it’s a HABIT.  Breaking bad habits is usually difficult.

In the same way that bad habits have a negative impact on your life, good habits have a positive influence.

Aristotle said: Excellence is an art won by training and habitation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

We are what we repeatedly do. What a huge thought. That means we are what we eat! We are like we pray! We are how we treat others! Even our thought-life is part of a habit pattern.

And I thought excellence was a concept beaten to death in the 90′s . . . apparently (note Aristotle) the pursuit excellence has been around for some time! If you are reading this blog, my hunch is that average doesn’t cut it for you. You care. Your life and leadership matters. Sometimes we think our gifts, talents and skills make us or break us as leaders — and they do matter. But I think ordinary every day habits have a much bigger impact that we may know. You may not be able to change your gifting, but you can change your habits.

What bad habit do you want to stop?  What good habit do you want to start?

You get to choose your habits!
