God loves everyone, but certain characteristics appeal to him and invite his presence. A compilation of characteristics from scripture show him to draw close to those with faith, humility, hunger for truth, honesty and authenticity, heart-felt obedience, and more. Those who allow themselves to be drawn to him will find him deepening the relationship. Some hearts attract him like a magnet.
We can’t manufacture those attributes, of course. But for anyone who wonders why he seems distant, this is a good place to start. Do these attitudes characterize you? If not, what can you do to clothe yourself in them? What would happen if you asked him to dress you in them? How do you think he would respond?
When we take one step toward God, he takes a hundred or more toward us. But we have to ask. We have to be willing to position ourselves in a way that welcomes him. Humble, trusting, honest hearts do that. Seek him in such ways, and you will find him much closer than you thought.
