Read: Luke 1:30-31 & Romans 13:8
A mother’s love never ceases. She is ever mindful of and nurturing to her children. She gives of everything she has and is: her hopes, love and care. It’s an awesome responsibility and in some cultures, as in the time of Jesus, having children is a place of honor, especially sons. Since motherhood is a calling, it is understandable, even for Jesus’ mother, to have fear and anxiety, but comfort is near.
Luke 1:30-31 says, “But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.’”
In these words, Mary found that she does not have to be afraid, that she is significant to God and that God has a plan for her child-to-be the Savior of the world.
Every mother can have the same hopes that Mary had: comfort, security, significance and a promise that God has a plan for her children’s lives. Comfort and security came by voice of an angel to Mary, but words of comfort and encouragement for our mothers come from us. They sound like “I will protect you, you are mine, you are important to me and God has definitely used you in amazing ways in my life. I love you!”
A mother’s love never ceases; nor should ours. We owe them so much and should often remind them of how much we love them and how important they are to us.
“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another” (Romans 13:8).
