What a blessing to receive and read this email:
“I have been using the Crossroads Career Work Book as my devotional guide. The scriptures included are very effective!!!!!!!”
The email was from Nicolet, a corporate recruiter who came to one of our Saturday morning Christ-Centered Career Groups last year. She was facing a difficult situation. Her employer was asking her to transfer to another city just after she bought a house.
What to do?
Nicolet began negotiations to stay, or at least delay, the move, but eventually, the choice became relocate, quit or be fired.
She made the move, rented an apartment and continued to do her best at work. Months later, she was granted an opportunity to return home to work as an independent contractor, not as an employee. She made the move back. More months passed, and I received this email from her:
“I wanted to let you know that my old company re-hired me permanently and I get to stay in Charlotte… I thank God for keeping me gainfully employed at this time.”
Behind the scenes?
She continued coming to church for Saturday career groups, attending workshops, and working with our volunteer coaches by email and phone, using our Crossroads Career Work Book. Her emails were seasoned with quotes:
“It was great seeing you. The program was very spiritual and beneficial to me.”
“Thank you very much for your prayers and support. It is appreciated.”
“I am still trusting God that they will provide me with good news!”
The very good news is that Nicolet’s journey illustrates an answer to this question posed by Oswald Chambers from his devotional book My Utmost for His Highest.
“Have you come to a crossroads of overwhelming circumstances
where your theology is about to become
a very personal belief?”
What’s next?
She is doing great at work and preparing for more:
“Eventually, I would like to have the opportunity to cross-train for a Human Resources Management role: Do you know a mentor who could help me?”
As for Nicolet’s personal faith, she signed up for the prison ministry team at church to encourage and help incarcerated women prepare to find a job when they are released. As for her daily devotion:
“I read and pray through one of the verses on the 1-800-Dear-God page every day.”
