Adoption and Infertility

Infertility is brutal. It is painful. It is often lonely and feels endlessly discouraging.

Although infertility is a private subject for many couples, the reality is, there are many men and women experiencing this each day. The Center for Disease Control says that six percent of women ages 15-44 struggle with infertility, and Reuters relays that a shocking one in six couples face infertility at some point.

While infertility is more common than most people think, it doesn’t diminish the difficulties it brings emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We have many couples that come to us because of infertility, specifically to our Infertility and Pregnancy Loss ministry. Bethany’s ministry of more than twenty years, helps couples struggling with infertility walk through the troublesome waters of loss, frustration, and grief.

There are, of course, a variety of reasons couples choose adoption, but, we understand that the experience of infertility does cause many couples to pursue parenting through adoption. We have regularly seen adoption bring great joy to both parents and children as they are joined together into a loving forever family and begin to see how God can redeem the difficult circumstances they have experienced.

However, we know that the transition from infertility to adoption doesn’t come without challenges. We seek to address the impact of infertility, the loss it creates, and how it will manifest itself during the adoption process and at placement through training and support.
