Alive in Him

"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient." Ephesians 2:1-2, NIV

“I once was lost, but now I’m found; was blind, but now I see.”

If you are a Christian, then you were once lost. You followed the ways of Satan, instead of the ways of God. The Bible is very clear on this matter. If you aren't following God, you are following the Devil. You can’t “opt out” of both ways.

I think one of the biggest struggles of the lost world today is not in a lack of desire for the things of God, as much as it is that they don’t realize they are lost. In a society where pornography is now acceptable during prime time television, why should it surprise us that people have a hard time with this concept? Most of our lives are more “pure” than many of the characters Hollywood shares with us. We are “better” than a lot of people.

Where we fall short is in comparing ourselves to anyone other than Jesus! He is our example of purity. When we compare, we fall far short. We recognize our sin. We realize our shortcomings.

Yes, you and I were born into a world of sin. In fact, we, too, have broken God’s laws. Sin is all around us. Praise God we have a Savior! His name is Jesus, and He bore the penalty for our sin. Praise God, for the Christian, the one who has been born-again, Paul could write today’s passage in past tense. “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins”….but now, oh, yes thank you Jesus….now, you are alive in Him!
