Are You Afraid?

What scares you? When you were younger, did you need a spray bottle filled with monster repellent to help you feel safe in your room? Maybe you can’t stand spiders. Maybe you’re afraid of bigger, serious, more grown-up concerns like your dad having cancer or your baby brother being in the hospital.

You know who wants to hear from you about all of your fears? Your God. Because you love me, I will rescue you. I will protect you because you know my name. When you call to me, I will answer you. I will be with you when you are in trouble” (Psalm 91:14,15).

When you scream, “Dad! Come quick!” because you need him to kill a spider, he comes because you’ve called for him and he loves you. When you call out, “God! I need you!” he’s there because you called for him and he loves you. He hurts when you hurt, and he promises that—no matter what—he is with you. You know, he already knows what’s in your heart and mind. He already knows what scares you. I bet you’ll feel better if you talk to him about it.

God, who made the whole entire universe out of nothing, cares about you. One of his favorite things is to watch over you, answer you, and protect you.

Call to him. He’s ready.

Chomp on this!

What things scare you at home? at school? with friends?

How do you think God can help with those scary things?

Dear God, without me even saying it, you know what scares me. Thank you for caring about me, for telling me that I can talk to you about everything! Thank you for answering me all the time, and for always being with me. Amen.
