At One with God

When adults have information they need to share, they’ll ask, “Do you want the bad news first or the good news?”

Most adults choose the bad news first because they want to end with the good stuff. Because you’re growing up, you’re getting the bad news first.

When you were born, you were God’s enemy. “Indeed, I was born guilty. I was a sinner when my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5).

Sin and guilt separated you from God, which means you were at odds with him. You didn’t want what he wants, you didn’t like what he likes, and you wouldn’t have been able to hang out with him forever because of it.

That’s really bad news, isn’t it? Here comes the good stuff.

God knew that on your own, you’d never want to come to him. So he came up with a rescue plan to win you back.

[Jesus] had to be made like them, fully human in every way . . . that he might make atonement for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17 NIV).

That means Jesus became a little baby, put God inside a human body, so that he could live perfectly in your place. Then when he died on a cross, he made atonement for you. His death paid the price for your sins. You are now at one with God.

That is the best good news ever!

P.S. Go tell someone so they can be at one too!
