Be Consistent

Consistency is what this tired old world of ours needs to find -- folk who are consistent in their lifestyle.

Consistency is to be unchanging over time, not to live a life of contradictions saying one thing and then doing something totally different.

Inconsistency makes people feel very insecure, especially in the family. Dad and Mom, let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’, and your ‘no’ be ‘no’, and then see how well your children will perform in life.

Paul puts it so beautifully in Philippians 3:12-14 when He says, “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.

A little advert on TV really touched me deeply. It shows an old grandfather and his young grandson going out early in the morning in their little sailing boat to catch fish.

The grandfather wakes his little grandson up each morning, very early, before the sun comes up, to go out and to see if they can catch fish, but to no avail.

But consistently every morning, the old man wakes up the little boy, and off they sail to find fish. All the other fishermen give up and don’t go out anymore. Then a freak storm comes up while they are out at sea, and when it clears the fish arrive. The old man and the young boy are already out at sea and catch many fish, to the joy of the community!

The next morning you see the roles change -- it is the little boy who is up first, and he is busy waking up his old granddad to go out fishing.

Your children will learn to be consistent if you are consistent in your lifestyle.
