Can You Become Anything You Want to Be?

You can be anything you want to be!

I know this is going to surprise the hearts of some you Mamas that want to instill in your children the hope and drive to be whatever their little heads can imagine.  And the Christians in this crowd will echo their wish saying, “Yes!  With God, all things are possible!”  And I could not agree more.  Really, I am with you.  Stick with me.

This lie becomes truth when you turn it around just a bit:

You Can Be Everything God Wants You to Be.

God does amazing miracles like free throws when you don’t expect it, or winning races when the odds are against you.

“It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Phil. 2:13

It is not our desire or even the desire of a child’s.  It is not how much she kicks a soccer ball or serves the volleyball. If my daughter wants to become the next Taylor Swift but cannot hold a tune or a guitar, that is going to be tough by the world’s standards.  BUT,

if God has it in His plan, it will happen. Plan on it!

Now, I can use this example because my daughter really does have a good voice and she will be starting guitar lessons soon, but she can practice all she wants, and if God does not want her on center stage, it will not happen.

St. Augustine describes it like this:

“Pray as though everything depended on God and act as if everything depended on you.” — St. Augustine (354-430)

But the thing that I need to remember even more than that is that our daughters have a specific purpose to bring glory for God’s ultimate plan.  That is why she was created.  And when she finds that purpose, she will find the thing that she wants to work hard for so that she can bring glory to God.

Our lives are to be lived willingly to the glory of God.  We are created and called to make the beauty and greatness of God known in the world.

Max Lucado sums it up perfectly:

God made only one version of you.  He custom designed you for a one-of-a-kind assignment.

You are heaven’s Halley’s comet; we have one chance to see you shine.  You offer a gift to the world that no one else brings.  So find it and bring it! And when you do, both you and God will smile.

Yes, you can be everything God wants you to be.
