When you head to church on Sunday, you might hear the pastor say, “Welcome to God’s house.” God’s house sounds like a great thing, doesn’t it? We like to go to our church home where we hear about God and worship him with our friends. Sometimes, though, you might think that because it’s God’s house, he never leaves there. That you have to go see him.
The people who lived in the Old Testament thought that too. They believed that God lived only in the temple in Jerusalem. So they went at least once a year to show that they loved him. God loved their worship, but he also wanted them—and you—to know he is too big to live in one church building. “However, the Most High doesn’t live in a house built by humans, as the prophet says: ‘The Lord says, “Heaven is my throne. The earth is my footstool. What kind of house are you going to build for me? Where will I rest?’ ” (Acts 7:48, 49).
The whole world is God’s house. No matter where you are, he is there. You don’t have to wait until Sunday to pray to him or worship him. Talk to him when you’re about to take your math test. Bring him glory by taking your elderly neighbor’s dog for a walk. Thank him for being with you when you are nervous on the school bus.
He sees you. All the time.
Dear God, you are with me all the time. Help me find comfort in that and help me remember that I can talk to you in prayer whenever I need to and you will listen. Amen.
