Come Boldly

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV)

Many people know this verse yet still come to God tentatively. Dare I ask this? Will he answer? Doesn’t he have bigger things to deal with? Who am I, after all? We forget his infinite capacity and his relentless love—even though he assured us again and again.

It’s true we have no right to boldly enter his presence, but he didn’t invite us on the basis of our rights. He invited us on the basis of his goodness. That changes everything. It undoes all our self-deprecating arguments. It’s wrong, even insulting, not to accept his invitation.

That means we can come with the expectation of an answer—not in a demanding spirit but a certain one. He promised to hear us, and he never fails his promises. He delights in big, hairy, audacious faith for things that fit his purposes. He looks for people willing to ask and ask again until he answers. He honors faith because he said he would.

Bring big faith into God’s presence. Have huge expectations. Come boldly. If he said you can, you can. In fact, you should. Don’t waste the invitation. He welcomes those who recognize his extravagance and are daring enough to receive it.
