Decode the Message

Have you ever seen people at football games holding up signs with John 3:16 written on them in big, bold letters? Tim Tebow, who played in the NFL, used to put John 3:16 in his eye black.

People who believe in Jesus and read the Bible know that reference really well, but what about two-thirds of the people in the world who are not Christians? Too many times believers speak a foreign language and the message we try to share sounds like blah, blah, blah to others.

Instead of making it a code for people to decipher, what if tomorrow we shared not only the numbers but also the actual message that “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV)?

Tomorrow you could invite someone to go with you to church or Sunday school. You could share some of your favorite Christian music with your neighbor. E-mail or text your friends the Bible passage. Tell them all about John 3:16.

Chomp on this!

Make a list of other ways you can talk to people about Jesus and his love for them.

Dear God, thank you for loving us so much that you were willing to give up Jesus, your Son, for us. Because of this love, we won’t be separated from you forever. Instead, we get to go to heaven, where we’ll be with you, in person, every day . . . forever. Amen.
