Several years ago, I began a personal journey into a deeper prayer life. As I look back on this journey, a lot of things that happened were expected. There were areas of disobedience Christ forced me to recognize and deal with. There were character markers in my life that did not reflect the Presence of Christ and yes, I had to confess those and remove them from my life. Sometimes this process was easier at some times than others, but the Christian life is a process — and a long one at that.
But there were some expected moments as well. Such as, you may ask. Here’s the first one. I started praying for my wife. This doesn’t mean I didn’t pray for Jeannie before. I did. I prayed the usual husband prayer. “Dear Lord, bless Jeannie. Amen.”
Yet, the more time I spent with Christ in prayer, the more I felt led to pray for Jeannie. There is something about being in the Presence of the Lord who created Jeannie, who had dreams for her when He created her, Who has watched over her every day of her life and has always loved her. There is something about listening to Jesus when He talks about your wife that will give you insight and understanding you CAN’T GET ANYWHERE ELSE!
There’s no book on our wives. There’s no way to do research on them. BUT we can talk to God who created our wives.
In Genesis 2, God placed Adam in the garden to tend it and care for it. Several verses later, God gives Eve to Adam. Adam would have understood the gift of Eve the same way he understood the gift of the garden. Eve belongs to God and God has entrusted Eve to Adam to be a steward of her. The role of the steward is to maximize the Master’s investment. Our calling — and privilege — as husbands is to be stewards of our wives.
That means:
- Our wives are gifts from God to us.
- As husbands, we’re called to be stewards of our wives.
- We’re entrusted to assist our wives in maximizing their Christ given potential.
So, here’s the question, guys…Do You Pray for Your Wives? Not just the “bless my wife” prayer, but have a deep conversation with Christ about our wives? Have you ever asked Jesus how best to love your wife? Who would know better than Jesus?
When you pray differently for her, you will love her differently. In turn, she will love you differently because she’ll know no one understands her like you do.
Guys, do you want a better marriage? It all starts when we as husbands become better in praying for our wives.
