I had an “ah-ha” moment in my time with the Lord this morning. Do you ever have one of those? It feels like a holy brick hits you right square in the forehead opening your eyes to receive a divine nugget.
But for me it is good to be near God. I have made the Lord my refuge that I might tell of your marvelous works.
How easy it is for us to enjoy God’s favor, witness His obvious hand of mercy and grace in our circumstances but never tell anyone. After all, when’s the last time you told someone what either God did in your life last week or what He is doing right now? God’s sole purpose for us is to glorify Him. What does that mean?
To glorify God means to acknowledge His greatness and give Him honor by praising Him primarily because He deserves to be revered. One of the ways we worship Him is to give an offering of obedience, submission, or rehearsing His attributes. But the one I find easiest to overlook is the offering of telling – that is, publicizing His deeds performed in our midst.
For you, it might be as simple as sharing with your children how God provided for you today in your workplace. Or it might require courage, like going against the crowd, taking a stand, and speaking of your convictions in the presence of those who might disagree. In the Bible, remember Stephen? He did that. He retold the story of God’s dealings with Israel before the crowd and “covering their ears they rushed to stone him.” (Acts 7:55). Whatever the circumstance, whatever the occasion, or whatever the outcome, it pleases God for us to remember what He has done and tell others.
So, it’s my turn. Yes, Pam, please do tell – tell – tell. I feel like running up and down the grocery store aisle and telling everyone. God is here! God is here! Look into Arise Ministries and see for yourself. I feel like Mary in the Bible when she saw that Jesus was no longer in the tomb. She rushed as fast as her little legs could carry her to tell – tell – tell.
I’m thankful for all the ways God speaks to me, one of them being through the simple artifacts I have taped in my Bible – a clipping of hair, for example – touching a tender spot in my heart – reminding me of the brevity of life.
