Does God Care When Your Pet Dies?

While Jesus talked to a big crowd of people, he reminded them just how valuable they were to God. He put in a little nugget of information that’s pretty cool. He said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care” (Matthew 10:29 NIV).

Did you catch that? Not only is God paying attention to you and your life, he is paying attention to every animal on the face of this earth too. God notices each duck, goldfish, cat, bear, dog, giraffe, hamster, moose, and elephant. Your Father cares for them by providing food for the wild animals. If one of those animals—hopefully not the moose—is your pet, he gives you the privilege and honor of taking care of it.

So does God care when your pet dies? He absolutely does. If he notices when a little sparrow falls to the ground, he sees when you’re sad that your pet died. After all, on the sixth day of creation, “God made every type of wild animal, every type of domestic animal, and every type of creature that crawls on the ground. God saw that they were good” (Genesis 1:25).

Animals are part of God’s plan to bless you. They are good. He does care.
