Does Jesus Have Your Attention?

I don’t fully comprehend the magnitude and majesty of God. At least not yet. But the longer I know Him, the larger He becomes to me. And as long as He has my attention, He will continue to grow larger to my understanding.

The disciples once watched an incredible thing happen. On the Sea of Galilee, a storm blew up and rocked their fishing boat. While they attempted to not sink and not drown in the waves that continued crashing over the boat, Jesus slept. Jesus calmed the storm with a word and eased the distressed disciples, who having observed this miraculous exchange between Jesus and the Sea He had once designed, began to understand Jesus in a different light.

"What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

- Matthew 8:27 (NIV)

Keep in mind that these guys had already forsaken all to follow Jesus. They were saved, trusting and resting in Him whether they fully understood Him or not. But their faith and understanding was still growing. They saw Jesus as a special man, but had yet to understand Him as God-on-earth. They believed that the wind and seas obeyed Him, but had yet to grasp that He was the Creator and Sustainer of all of nature.

But Jesus had their attention.

And when Jesus arrests our attention, He can grow our perspectives and increase our faith. And as our understanding of Him and our faith in Him grow, we walk with greater confidence. This is why worship is so vital to our lives as believers – yes, corporately on the weekend, but even more so privately all week long. Worship, for us, is what feeds our souls and opens our eyes to the majesty of God.

God wants to show you some magnificent things about Himself, but He needs your attention first.
