Don’t Be Ashamed

Have you ever felt ashamed? Maybe you got caught spreading rumors about a friend. Or you completely disobeyed your parents, and they were disappointed. Or are you ashamed because of how your family acts? Sometimes you might even be ashamed of God. I mean, it’s embarrassing to be different from others, to make choices that make God happy even if they make your friends mad, to believe things that other people think are old-fashioned.

So when a friend asks, “Why do you believe in this stuff?" have you been ashamed that you believe in God or have you been proud of Jesus?

In our minds we know what’s right, so why is it so hard? Usually it’s because we are afraid that talking about God’s Word will ruin our reputations. Or because Satan wants us to keep quiet so more people don’t hear the good news.

Paul wasn’t worried about that at all. He wrote, “I’m not ashamed of the Good News. It is God’s power to save everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). The gospel—the Good News that Jesus loved and died for the world—is how God uses his power to save all believers. That is amazing news! We share it not because we have to, but because we can’t wait to.

Dear Lord, we know we should never be ashamed of the gospel. Please help us spread your Word boldly with all people and not be ashamed of it. In your name we pray. Amen.
