Free to Do Anything

As a New Testament believer, the Bible says you are not under any laws or rules as you live your life for God.  You’re free to do anything!  While this is a great privilege you have, it’s also a great responsibility that God has entrusted to you.

There are two things God wants you to consider as you live this life of freedom in Him.  This first is found in 1 Corinthians 6:12 where we’re told: “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful.  All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” The first consideration in choosing the life you want to live is: How will the choices I make today affect my life?  Will my choices bring me greater liberty or bring me into bondage?  Will my decisions help my walk with God or hinder it?

The second thing to be aware of in living free in Christ is found in Romans 7:15: “If another believer is distressed by what you eat, you are not acting in love if you eat it.  Don’t let your eating ruin someone for whom Christ died.” God is specifically addressing food here but it can apply to anything in life.  Another thing God wants you to consider in all that you do is: How will what I’m about to do affect someone else?  Will my decisions cause another person to have difficulty in their walk with God?

With freedom comes responsibility.  As children, we’re given rules to follow, but as we mature and grow we can make more and more decisions on our own.  God is calling you to grow up, to take responsibility, and to consider the affect your choices will have on your life and the lives of those around you.  True freedom in Christ means you’re living for God and living for others!
