God Hears You

Sometimes you call from your bed because you’re scared. “Mom . . . Mom . . . MOM!” If she doesn’t come right away, then you yell louder. Sometimes her room feels so far away that you wonder if she will ever hear you. Then she comes through your door to let you know, “I hear you. I’m here. What do you need?”

God, who sometimes seems far away because he lives in heaven, wants you to know that he is right here too. He wants to hear what you need. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14 NIV).

When you are calling for him because you’re scared of moving or because there’s a tornado warning, he says, “I hear you.” When you are asking him to watch over and protect you on vacation, he hears you. When you ask him to help your parents because they are fighting, he hears you. When you talk to him because your uncle is really sick, he listens. If you’re super happy because there is a new baby in the family, he loves to hear about that too.

No matter where you are—school, home, in a new town, or at a sleepover—he hears you. No matter what time of day—when you wake up, at recess, before dinner, and at bedtime—he hears you. Your heavenly Dad loves to hear you calling for him. He’s listening. He’s ready.
