God Just Is

God had an important job for Moses—to be the leader of God’s plan to rescue the Israelites from slavery.

Then Moses replied to God, ‘Suppose I go to the people of Israel and say to them, “The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,” and they ask me, “What is his name?” What should I tell them?’ God answered Moses, ‘I Am Who I Am. This is what you must say to the people of Israel: “I Am has sent me to you.”’ Again God said to Moses, ‘This is what you must say to the people of Israel: The Lord God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever. This is my title throughout every generation’” (Exodus 3:13-15).

Your God, who existed before he created the world, is the God who talked to Moses.

He is the same God who protected Noah and his family. He is the same God who protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in a fiery furnace. He is the Lord of your parents and grandparents. He is the same God who turned his back on Jesus on the cross so that he could turn his face to you. This is the I Am who watches over you. He works in your life to bring you closer to him. He will be the I Am when you grow up and have kids and teach them about I Am. He is the same I Am who will live with you forever in heaven.

You get to say with the angels, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming” (Revelation 4:8).

God is I Am.
