God Knows the Way

“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8,9 NIV).

Kids sometimes drive their parents bananas in the car. They ask all sorts of questions:

“Are we there yet?”

“Are we lost?”

“How much longer?”

“Do you know where you’re going?”

“Are you going to answer me?”

In your defense, you aren’t sure where you are going and you just want your parents to reassure you. Maybe you’re driving through a bad neighborhood, maybe you don’t recognize where you are, or maybe you’re just tired and want to be done. Your dad, who is wiser than you are, looks at you with compassion and says, “Don’t worry. Trust me. I know exactly where I am.”

Sometimes we do the same thing to God. We ask questions like, “How much longer until this gets better?” “God, are you sure this is the place I’m supposed to live?” “God, it seems like you’re not answering my prayers. Are you even listening?”

Through the words in Isaiah today, God reminds you that he is wiser than you are. He’s telling you to look at him through his Bible and see his compassion for you. Today, ask God all the questions you want. Then listen when he tells you this: “Trust me. I know where I’m going.”
