God Loves You, Stinky Face

I Love You, Stinky Face is one of my all-time favorite children’s books. Have you read it?

At bedtime, the sweet little child keeps asking the patient mom just how big her love is. “Mama, would you love me if I were a Cyclops? Mama, would you love me if I were a skunk? Mama, would you love me if I were a dinosaur?” Over and over the mom reassures . . . “Yes! I’d love you no matter what.”

Maybe we wonder the same thing about God. Are we ever tempted to think that something can make God love us less? “Heavenly Father, do you love me even though I have problems in my life? Abba, do you love me even if I sometimes act on temptations? Daddy, do you love me even when I make bad choices?”

God’s answer in Romans 8:38,39 sounds a lot like God’s version of I Love You, Stinky Face:

“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love which Christ Jesus our Lord shows us. We can’t be separated by death or life, by angels or rulers, by anything in the present or anything in the future, by forces or powers in the world above or in the world below, or by anything else in creation.”

Whenever you start to forget his love, read these words again. Because of what Jesus has done for you, nothing can separate you from his love. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

Chomp on this!

Have there been times when you thought that God didn't love you?

In what BIG way did God show you that he loves you no matter what? (Hint: It happened way before you were even born!)
