God Makes It Right

Today is National Blasphemy Day. Blasphemy is a big word that means to put down or tell lies about God. Some blaspheme by saying there is no God. Others say they are their own god. Other people say that God is hate. Some say religion is only for stupid, weak people. Those may sound strange to you, but the people who truly believe that use this special day to criticize and hate religion—and make fun of people who believe in God.

Blasphemy is not a new idea. In the book of Malachi, we hear about people who “have said, ‘It’s pointless to serve God. What do we gain if we meet his standards or if we walk around feeling sorry for what we’ve done? So now we call arrogant people blessed. Not only are evildoers encouraged, they even test God and get away with it’” (Malachi 3:14,15).

Maybe you feel the same way: some kids cheat and get away with it. Sometimes bullies get away with beating others up. If so, then you need to hear the rest of this section.

“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord paid attention and listened. . . . ‘They will be mine,’ says the Lord of Armies. ‘On that day I will make them my special possession. I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him. Then you will again see the difference between righteous people and wicked people, between the one who serves God and the one who doesn’t serve him’” (verses 16-18).

When sometimes it seems like the blasphemers are winning, remember that God pays attention and listens. You are his special possession. He makes it right in the end.
