God’s Love Isn’t Random

It’s National Random Acts of Kindness Day—in New Zealand. (That’s the only country that has an official Random Acts of Kindness Day.) The whole point of the day is to do something nice for a stranger, simply because you want to be nice.

God celebrated National Random Acts of Kindness Day the day he sent Jesus to earth.

“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy” (Titus 3:3-5 NIV).

God wasn’t kind to us because we were kind to him. In fact, we were mean and hateful. Our nature was completely against him. When God sent Jesus—his kindness and love put into a body—he did it because he is full of mercy. He could have, and should have, punished us, but instead he had compassion. Not randomly, but on purpose.
