God’s Name Is on You

God establishes us, together with you, in a relationship with Christ. He has also anointed us. In addition, he has put his seal of ownership on us and has given us the Spirit as his guarantee (2 Corinthians 1:21,22).

It’s almost time to head back to school (get your groans out now). Before you go, you usually make sure to write your name inside your backpack, on your water bottle, and on your folders and binders. You need to let everyone know what supplies are yours.

God has claimed you too, just the way you’ve marked your school supplies. In today’s passage he tells about all the ways he has said you are his.

He anointed you. He picked you and gave you the power to do the jobs he has for you.

He set his seal of ownership on you. At your baptism, God wrote his name on you. Satan can’t have you because God owns you now.

He put his Spirit in your heart. He gave you the Holy Spirit to remind you that Jesus is coming back.

This coming school year, remember that you have God’s name written all over your life. If anyone asks you about it, be sure to give God all the credit. You didn’t choose to put God’s name on you; he chose you. After all, no one thinks your jacket wrote your name on itself. That would be silly.
