God Sees Your Longings

People who are stepping into dreams they’ve held in their hearts for a long time currently surround me. So many of my dearest friends are being blown away by the kindness and provision of God. It is the sweetest thing to share in. Craig and I are among the crowd with meeting our sweet little boy now being less than a month away.

I recently received a poem from my grandmother about the excitement and anticipation of expecting your first baby. As I read through it, my heart leapt at these words: "God must of known your longings just to hold a tiny hand.” I felt the prick of tears as I sensed the nearness of my Father. My heart settled with the assurance–he knew. He knew the longing of my heart to hold a tiny hand.

As I am realizing that for myself and seeing the reality of that played out in so many others’ lives, I’m given peace at the profundity of that truth. God knows our longings, friends. He sees them, and he is keenly aware of our heart’s desires. This is no small thought. The peace that floods my heart at the divine sovereignty of our God is beyond logic or understanding. It makes me feel safe.

Rooted deeply in his ability to provide above what we can ask or imagine is his love for us. We REALLY matter to God. And if we can get past the urge to understand how and if he is willing or able to fulfill our longings, we will find we can actually trust him with them regardless. And this is because of his relentless tenderness and pure Father’s heart for his children.

I would encourage you today to come to him as a child. Never stop asking and praying for what he’s planted within you. I’ve allowed fear to hold me back from even asking for far too long. Fear that he didn’t know my longings or understand them or want them too. But when we come before him in innocence, without fear of disappointment, we will see how for us he truly is.

Choose to trust and believe that God knows your longings and that they matter to him. Pray earnestly and pour out your heart before him. Place it all in his hands–every dream, every desire, every hope. And be at peace. Let him shower you in his love. I am praying he meets you with the reality of his nearness today, right now, and that he shows you how much he truly cares.

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” –Ephesians 3:20-21

“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.” –Psalm 62:8

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” –Psalm37:4
