The living, the living--they praise you, as I am doing today; fathers tell their children about your faithfulness. Isaiah 38:19 NIV
Godly fathers testify to the goodness of God!
My boys love to hear me tell stories of my past. There are certain stories, which I get asked to retell over and over again. Sometimes I have left out a certain detail and they are quick to correct me. I often think they know parts of my childhood better than I do.
A Godly father tells his children also about his journey with the Lord. Of course, one can’t tell of his journey with the Lord unless he has one. So, it goes without saying that a Godly father has a consistent, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. He doesn’t keep that to himself, however, he shares it with his children.
In Biblical days fathers spent many hours teaching their children about the customs of the people and the laws of God. Sure, times were different then and many men worked near their homes and their children worked with them. I wonder though, do our children need our instruction any less today? I would say not! Our children need us to share with them God’s ways as we have learned them from experience.
Has God ever done anything in your life? Have you ever felt His presence in a very real way? Ever had a special time of prayer with the Lord? Can you remember one good thing that happened to you that you knew had to be a God thing? Then, let me ask you this, have you ever shared this with your children? Do they know it?
A Godly heritage is passed on through Godly men who share Godliness with their children on a consistent basis. Are you passing on a Godly heritage?
