“For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the mountains, and the wild beasts of the field are mine. For the world is Mine and all its fullness” (Psalm 50:10-12 NKJV).
I want to be like my dog Gus.
When I scold him for misbehaving, he forgives instantly. If I’m late with his meal, he thanks me. My Labrador accepts me ‘just as I am’ and is a faithful companion. He waits long hours for me to come home from shopping and never complains. Rather, he patiently watches our driveway for my return and gives me a sweet slobbering kiss.
Gus gives much and expects little. His loyalty and contentment keeps him home. This four-legged friend wants nothing more than to please me. Gus is one of my favorite instructors. He teaches important things: acceptance, patience, loyalty and most of all, love.
Gus fulfills God’s purpose for his life. He was created and equipped to know exactly what to do. I wonder sometimes ‘how’ he lives in the moment. Nothing about his past haunts him and he isn’t troubled over the future. The way he lives life reminds me of the words Jesus spoke about worry and fear “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious and troubled [with cares] about your life” (Luke 12:22 Amplified).
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if humans accepted people as they are? Loved them unconditionally? Offer devoted companionship to loved ones? Showed kindness and forgiveness to ones who deserve it least? Granted patience to those who hurt us most?
Wouldn’t people feel more joy if they lived in the moment of each blessed day God grants---rather than overly concernment with tomorrows that haven’t arrived?
Gus knows he has a master that will always care for him with undying love. I want to be like that.
