He Really Meant That

Jesus meant what He said when He told His disciples that if they wanted to be great, they needed to be servants and slaves. Aspiring to greatness means one thing in the world's way of thinking, but exactly the opposite in God's way of thinking. Jesus gave His definition of greatness, then He showed us the way so there wouldn't be any question about it.

“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”—Matthew 20:26-28

Prayer: Jesus, I want to be great in God's way of thinking, even when it cuts across popular and cultural models of leadership. Teach me how to lead like You, serving others instead of seeking to be served. In Your name I pray, amen.
