We all long for glory. We may not freely admit it; it seems like a self-centered desire. But some impulse deep within craves glory—to see it, feel it, experience it. We know we were made for something bigger than ourselves.
Meanwhile, we go through hardships, wrestle with discouragement and depression, feel stuck in the mundane, and see few hints of glory in our lives. Our hearts were made to soar, but our circumstances keep us grounded. And we don’t know what to do with that.
Two verses from the apostolic letters make a surprising connection between our present condition and our future hopes. “Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:17). “Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). Both statements contrast our present pain and our future promise. And the promise always outweighs the pain.
That means whatever you’re going through today, it’s worth it. No one in Christ gets to the end and looks back with regret, no matter how hard life was. Every heartache gives way to hope. The resurrection assures us that our desire for glory will be satisfied.
