How Can You Use Media for Good?

"Two million people look for God each day—not in church, but in a search." 

This was the lead in an abcnews.com article. According to the story, more and more people are searching online for answers about God. In fact, one in 1,000 Internet searchers are looking for information about God. 

"On an average day, sites like Jesus2020 get 150,000 visitors, and about 25,000 of them click a button to say they want to learn more. Of those about 5,000 a day fill in a form so an online missionary can contact them via e-mail," the article points out. Their questions are often surprising ... "Now that I have accepted Christ, what do I do next? Do I need to be perfect now? How do I pray?"

Christians are rising up to meet this new need. Techie evangelists are using the Internet to preach the good news and cyber missionaries are responding to millions of requests for prayer and information about God.  

Cool, huh? 

That article got me thinking about all of the ways we can use media for good. Sure, media can do some serious damage to our Christian walk. But not all media is toxic, and there are lots of ways to use media to minister to others.  

For example, there are tons of great Christian musical artists who offer an alternative to the questionable lyrics often sung by pop musicians. Some of my favorites are Shane and Shane, Family Force 5, and KJ-52. Christian music can be a great way to share Christ with others or keep your thoughts clean while still managing to have a great beat pumping. Facebook can be a good outlet to offer an encouraging word to a friend in need, to reach out to someone who doesn't know Christ, or to boldly proclaim your faith.
