How to Write a Great Love Letter

Write a great love letter in four easy steps.

Step 1: Say I love you—a lot.

Try saying it this way . . .

“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”

“I love you enough to lay down my life for you.”

“I love you enough to rescue you.”

“I will love you forever.”

Step 2: Be generous with the compliments.

Here are a few of my favorites.

“You’re the apple of my eye.”

“I rejoice over you with gladness. You can rest in my love.”

“You are beautiful, my love. Behold, you are beautiful.”

Step 3: Tell stories.

Cinderella. Snow White. The Princess Bride. Sometimes love is best understood through a great story.

Here are a few examples:

A young shepherd boy and a young shepherd girl fall in love and get married. To keep the home fires burning, they write beautiful poetry back and forth.

A prince falls in love with poor maiden. She has nothing to offer him and runs from him at times, but he cannot stop loving her. He leaves his palace and kingdom so he can be with her forever.

A groom offers to plan the entire wedding for his new bride. He buys her the most beautiful white dress you could imagine and delivers it to her dressing room on their wedding day. He pulls out all the stops and plans the most extravagant reception you can imagine. The bride only has to show up and enjoy the big day.

Step 4: End with a promise.

Everyone loves something to look forward to. End your epic love letter with a promise like this one . . .

“Surely I am coming soon.”

So, what do you say? How about using God’s model for writing a great love letter to tell Him how much you love Him? Maybe you’ve never poured out your heart to God or slathered Him with compliments. You may feel silly at first, but be brave. God boldly declared His love for you first. Just follow His lead.
