How You Build

Sand castles are awesome. You and your friends spend the morning digging, packing, and shaping your castle until you have the best sand castle ever.

Oh no! You turn around and realize that the tide is coming in. You watch the waves creep closer and closer. You try to build a moat, hoping to catch the water and stop the inevitable. But you can’t. The waves are about to wash away all your hard work.

Living without God is like building a sand castle. Everyone who hears what I say but doesn’t obey it will be like a foolish person who built a house on sand. Rain poured, and floods came. Winds blew and struck that house. It collapsed, and the result was a total disaster” (Matthew 7:26, 27).

When you think you are strong enough and can do everything on your own, you are fooling yourself. When trouble comes (and it will because this world is painful and hard and sinful), it will wash you away.

Living with God, however, is like building your castle out of concrete. Knowing his Word—and doing what it says—makes you strong when troubles come. “Therefore, everyone who hears what I say and obeys it will be like a wise person who built a house on rock. Rain poured, and floods came. Winds blew and beat against that house. But it did not collapse, because its foundation was on rock” (verses 24, 25).

God is your foundation. Pay attention to how you build.
