In the Arms of God

Many times, we are at a loss about what to do with our lives in spite of the decades we have spent in our church and spiritual family. We seem to keep searching for something or someone to fill the vacuum in our hearts and lives only to discover in the end that only God can perfectly satisfy the deepest, most intimate longings of our souls.

We already know that God is present everywhere but still we need to find Him in the secret place—the hidden dwelling of our hearts. There is no other way except to be still in His presence, amidst the noises surrounding us from day to day.

The perfect time for communing with God is upon waking up, before we begin our day and get preoccupied with our family, career, or ministry. We may choose a prayer closet like an extra room or our restroom or a literal closet so that we can have this special quiet time and devotion with God.

Begin by coming to God in all humility and sincerity asking Him to forgive you of all your sins. Tell Him all your fears, doubts, worries, anxieties, struggles, and anything that bothers you and affect your relationship with Him and other people.

As you release to God all the burdens, pains, heartaches, and troubles, you will feel a lifting of heaviness and a feeling of freedom, healing, and peace. Ask God to hide you under His wings as you begin this intimate moment with Him.

You may begin to read a Psalm of David or two from the Bible and pray the Scriptures with your mouth as worship to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Whatever worship song or hymn God placed in your heart, you may sing to Him. It’s not about you, it’s all about Him.

You may begin meditating, declaring, and applying the Word of God as in Joshua 1:8. Feel free to choose whichever Bible translation or version you feel most comfortable with in your Bible reading and meditation. It is best to read the Scriptures with your mind and your heart so it penetrates deeply in your spirit, so that it is not just Bible head knowledge. You may begin with the Book of Proverbs, one chapter a day and consistently follow through.

What God desires and wants from us is intimacy with Him, not anything else. He deserves our undivided love and attention above all. God always comes first, the priority above everything.

When we begin our day in the presence of God, we will be filled with the fruit of the Spirit in facing our challenges and handling our circumstances. The first response for every given situation or problems that come our way will be going to God only, not to other people—even our spouse, children, pastor, mentors or friends.

God has us covered. He is the answer to all our problems, needs, wants, desires, aspirations, and dreams. In everything we do, it is our worship to God that is most important. We glorify Him by knowing who He really is and who we are in Him. Many of our problems will be solved if we go to God first rather than making Him our last resort. It is in His arms where we find inner peace, joy, security, and unconditional love.
