Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him (Matthew 4:10-11).
THINK
Everyone deals with temptation. What we do in the face of that temptation is what determines our path in life. Some people try to fight temptation on their own strength, but that’s a losing battle. Others give up before the fight begins, surrendering to its strength or resigning to its reign.
Win the fight! The only way to truly defeat temptation is to follow Christ’s example and turn to what God says in His Word, the Bible. When you face temptation, what is your first response? Do you try to defeat it on your own? Do you give up? Or do you turn to God and ask Him to help you win the fight?
PRAY
When you are tempted, pray for God to help you overcome it. Take a page out of Christ’s playbook and lean on what God says in the face of your temptation.

Read Matthew 4:1-11 to see the three instances of Jesus being tempted and how he responded. Then, when you are tempted today, follow Jesus’ example for overcoming temptation.
