Inspired Audacity

If you really want to be conformed to God’s image—your original design, if you recall—then you’ll need to think bigger than simply doing the right things and avoiding sin. That’s not much of a vision. No, if you want to be like God, you’ll also need to have enormous dreams, visions, and goals. Why? Because clearly he does. Even a superficial look at the universe and his plan of redemption will tell you that. His kingdom is an enormous, eternal project. He would never create people to be like him and then urge them to think small.

Some people think big dreams are presumptuous. They may be if they’re entirely your own and independent of God’s inspiration. But he invites people to partner with him in his mission, and he doesn’t do things halfway. He wants us to embrace the capacity to envision, dream, and then live beyond ourselves.

Cultivate that vision and that way of life. If your dream is doable without God, it’s too small. If it’s bigger (or different) than it ought to be, he’ll be glad to redirect it without rebuke. He loves the heart behind inspired audacity. Ask for his dreams and then walk in them, and you’ll begin to look a lot like your Father.
