“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” —Habakkuk 2:3 (niv)
As my husband and I counted down to midnight, we looked at each other and laughed. How did we get here?
“Here” was on vacation, in a hotel in Orlando, Florida, with my mom snoozing next to us. On TV, a dozen pop stars helped us count down to the New Year. Brian and I did a quick inventory: married three years, completed law school, paid off student loans, bought a house, adopted a dog. With each new decision, we’d depended on God and tried to seek His will.
Brian looked at me. “Kids?” he asked. “Is it time?”
Looking into his eyes, I saw the faith and trust that had led us through seven years of dating and three years of marriage; the same eyes that had protected, encouraged, and challenged me. One thing we’ve certainly learned in our short marriage is that God’s will isn’t spelled out on a billboard. As much as I beg for God to invest in magazine ads, He won’t. And now here we were asking what might be the biggest question of all. I looked at the ceiling in case the watermarks spelled out Yes or No. No such luck. I simply needed to remember to seek and follow God’s will, and trust that the direction I’m moving in is His.
I turned to Brian as the ball dropped. “I’m ready if you are.” I’m okay with that.
