To those who would say that choosing to serve others means giving in to anything they want, we need only point to how Jesus responded to James's and John's mother. She did not know what she was asking, but Jesus did. He knew that she (and the other disciples) understood leadership to be about power and prestige. He took advantage of her request to model and clarify that Jesus-like leadership is about serving others. How can you leverage misunderstanding and teach others about leadership from Jesus' perspective today?
“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”—Mark 10:43-45
Prayer: Jesus, when I am confronted with misunderstandings about leadership, help me teach people about serving others through word and example. I pray in Your name, amen.
