Around the world, 800 million people do not have access to clean water. Because their drinking water is contaminated with bacteria, a child dies every 21 seconds from water-related diseases. To help save these little children, a number of organizations provide water purification tablets. These little pills get put into the water to kill all the germs, to make water safe for drinking so the children can live.
Around the world, seven billion people are contaminated with sin. Because sin brings death, every single person is in danger. To save his people, God sent his Son as his world purification tablet. When Jesus came to earth, he lived the perfect life for you. He obeyed every single thing his parents told him to do. He obeyed every single rule his heavenly Father gave. When Jesus was on the cross, God punished him for the sins you have done. The apostle John tells us, “The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7 NIV).
When Jesus rose from the dead, he declared that you are no longer eternally contaminated. You are a new creation. Jesus did this so God’s children, his brothers and sisters—that’s you—can live.
Dear Father, we pray for children around the world who drink contaminated water. Thank you for the people who work to give them clean water so they can live. We also pray for the people who do not know that they are eternally contaminated because of sin. Use us to tell them about Jesus, who purifies us all. Amen.
