Just a Reflection

In Washington D.C. you can visit the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, this long rectangle of water is designed to dramatically reflect the two majestic monuments.

The reflecting pool is an amazing site, but no one who goes to the United States capital says, “I saw the monuments’ reflections in the pool, so I know exactly what they look like now.” That’s because people realize that as beautiful as a reflection might be, it’s not the real thing. You have to turn around and look up to see the real beauty of the monuments.

This world is like that reflecting pool. We know God loves us. We can see his love for us, but because of sin, our view isn’t completely accurate. Our knowledge isn’t perfect. God tells us that the view in heaven is even better. When we are in his presence, we will turn around, look up, and see the real beauty.

“Now we see a blurred image in a mirror. Then we will see very clearly. Now my knowledge is incomplete. Then I will have complete knowledge as God has complete knowledge of me” (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Chomp on this!

How does sin blur your image of God and his love?
