Keep Your Eye on the Ball

“Keep your eye on the ball.” Your volleyball coach says this over and over. If you get distracted and a serve comes your way, you’re either too late to pass it, it flies over your head, or it might just smack you in the side of the face. You have to stay focused.

That’s the same kind of focus we need to have on Jesus. “We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).

Jesus had laser-like focus when he walked on this earth. He defeated Satan’s quick, easy temptations and stayed committed to the plan of defeating temptation for you. When he was on the cross, he saw past the pain and thought about rescuing you from your death. He ignored being humiliated, hanging naked on a cross, and having people mock him and spit on him. He kept focused on the joy ahead of him. You know what the joy is? You. Spending forever in heaven with you is his joy.

Today, fix your eyes on him. He is the One who started your faith, he makes it grow, he brings you joy and peace here, and he gets you to heaven.

Keep your eye on Jesus!
