Today is National Knock-Knock Jokes Day, so I have one for you:
Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Car.
Car who?
Mountain.
That’s a horrible knock-knock joke, isn’t it? A three-year-old made it up. Usually, though, knock-knock jokes are funny. Once you get started, everyone tells one—and everyone ends up laughing.
The Israelites did the same thing, except it wasn’t with jokes. As they’d walk together to worship, they’d sing: “Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with joyful songs. Then the nations said, ‘The Lord has done spectacular things for them.’ The Lord has done spectacular things for us. We are overjoyed” (Psalm 126:2,3).
If you were just told you’d won a million dollars, you might be stunned for a minute. Then you’d laugh and tell everyone. After being held captive in Babylon for 70 years, the Israelites had won the lottery: they could go home to Jerusalem. From then on as they went to worship, they’d laugh and praise God and tell stories of the awesome things he did.
You can do the same thing. Sing loud, happy songs. Be overjoyed. Your God has done spectacular things for you too!

Okay, get it over with. Everybody tell a knock-knock joke. Then tell a story of how God works in your life. One that makes you happy. One that makes you feel like you won the lottery. One that fills your mouth with laughter.
