When you were two, you knew the difference between right and wrong. You knew it was wrong to hit. You’d run and hide if you did hit someone because you didn’t want to get into trouble.
What you didn’t know when you were two was that, even though you got a time-out from your parents, Jesus took the ultimate punishment for your sins. You aren’t born knowing that. You need someone to tell you. That’s why God gave you parents and grandparents.
Timothy, who ended up becoming a missionary and traveling all over his part of the world, had to learn about Jesus when he was little too.
His dad was a Greek, which meant that his dad didn’t know about Jesus. His mom and grandma did, though, so they made sure he knew all about God’s plan to save the world. “I’m reminded of how sincere your faith is. That faith first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. I’m convinced that it also lives in you” (2 Timothy 1:5).
Timothy—who learned about Jesus from his mom and grandma—was God’s child, just like you are.

Timothy grew up to be a pastor. The apostle Paul wrote him a couple of letters to tell him how to serve people. You can read those letters in 1 and 2 Timothy.
Dear God, thank you for giving me adults to help me learn about Jesus. Without them, I wouldn’t know about you and your awesome plan to save me. For the adults in my life who don’t know you, like Timothy’s dad, help me to tell them. Amen.
