The toy just disappeared. We haven’t seen it in several days. Our Golden retriever has a pink pig she likes to play with when we let her spend time indoors. But the stuffed plaything we affectionately refer to as Pig-Pig, has gone missing.
We’ve searched high and low. My husband, daughter, and I have looked under couches, in the laundry room where we keep the dog bed, and in the screen room where our dog spends lots of time. Nothing. I even dug through the trash, thinking there was a remote chance one of us had accidentally thrown the knit toy away. Still no Pig-Pig.
The truth is, the toy didn’t cost much, and it doesn’t have much material value. But the mysterious disappearance of the pink pig gave me pause to think – there ARE some things in life worth searching for (click to tweet).
The lost coin
Jesus illustrated an important truth in a parable he told. He described a gripping scenario. A woman had 10 pieces of silver, and somehow one came up missing. Maybe she had dropped the treasured coin the last time she had taken it out. She may have wondered if someone in her family had taken it without asking her. Whatever had happened, she was left with only 9 of her valuable coins.
What did she do? She lit a candle for some light, swept the floor just in case the coin had fallen to the ground, and searched the entire house. I’m sure she moved every piece of furniture and left no pillow unturned. The good news? She found the coin.
Immediately she called her friends and neighbors to come over and celebrate with her. The lost coin had been found.
What’s really important
Jesus explained what the parable meant:
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 15:10
God’s love for the lost is so great that He pursues each one (click to tweet). When a person accepts Christ as his/her Savior, even the angels in heaven rejoice.
I had to ask myself if I am that passionate about seeing a lost person come to Christ. Am I willing to spend time pursuing that individual just like I spend time looking for a lost item? My answer needs to be yes.
Your turn
Are you passionate about introducing others to the Lord Jesus Christ? What step will you take to pursue them with the gospel today?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for teaching profound truths through the simplicity of every day life. Help me have a passion for people who don’t know You. Let me introduce them to Your saving grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
