Do women play a vibrant role in your church? If not, that may soon change as more church leaders become open to the concept of women in leadership. So perhaps now is the time to prepare. Who knows, you may be just the one they are looking for!
Here are some ABCs to start you on your way:
Available:
Leaders in training should already be serving. If you are—well done. If you aren’t, find an area of need in your church and make yourself available. This means volunteering your talents and your time, not just passing out a business card. You won’t be tapped for leadership if they can’t find you.
Brilliant:
The first eight chapters of Proverbs present wisdom in the feminine pronoun. We can do this! Because this is new territory, we cannot bring experience, but we can bring the brilliance of wisdom. Prepare now for your future. Study and educate yourself as you serve. Read books and assess your strengths. Qualify yourself…wait, over-qualify yourself. Don’t be sufficient; be outstanding!
Paul told Timothy: Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing (2 Timothy 2:21 MSG). No drama here, just intuitive wisdom with clarity and simplicity of thought and plans! This is another reason why we should know the Word of God and be skillful Girls with Swords.
Consecrated and Consistent:
Paul is very clear that those who lead in any capacity should also excel in virtue. We all have pasts, but the shadow of our past should not still be crossing our present. Those who lead should lead in all things. This means their lives are living examples of the church they represent and, ultimately, of Jesus. Mercy buries our past and grace empowers our future. As Ephesians 4:23 tells us, “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes” (NLT).
Remember…
“Let her lead” does not always equal “let her preach.” Even though preaching may very well be in your future, it is best built upon a strong foundation of faithful serving.
