Living for Another Realm

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 ESV)

It’s an amazing privilege. We can actually take the stuff of this very material, finite, temporal world and leverage it for infinite, eternal gain. Here in Romans 12, we present our bodies for God’s use—an act of spiritual worship. In 2 Corinthians 9, we give offerings of the world’s currency for God to bear eternal fruit with it. We can use time, natural talents, money—none of which are the substance of heaven—to affect heavenly realities. That’s an enormous opportunity.

Never underestimate that privilege. Your mission in life is to maximize your opportunities to leverage the substance of this realm for the benefit of another. Jesus called it “laying up treasure in heaven” (Matthew 6:20), and there are numerous ways to accomplish it. First and foremost is presenting your body—your entire self—to God as a living, breathing sacrifice.
