Love Always

"MY COMMAND IS THIS: LOVE EACH OTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU." — JOHN 15:12

Many women sign cards, yearbooks, and guestbooks with the closing greeting "Love always." It is a beautiful sentiment to read, knowing that the writer is filled with fondness for the friend whenever she thinks of her.

There are numerous everyday ways to show love always. It could be an encouraging phone call to a friend who is having the worst week ever or helping a neighbor take her car to the mechanic. It could be a well-timed gift of brownies or emergency babysitting or heading out to the movies for some quality time with someone you haven't seen in a while.

Jesus commands His children to show the same love that He demonstrated to us. His death on the cross was the most extravagant expression of love—giving up His holy life to grant eternal life to those who had rejected His ways (Isaiah 53:5). During a regular day, we probably don't usually have the opportunity to snatch a friend out of a life-threatening situation, but we do carry what can save a soul—the truth about Jesus. All the small ways we show love should point to the greatest Love that we've ever been given.

Let's pray:

Father God, thank You for Jesus' perfect love. Help His love flow from me to the people You've put in my life, and give me the words and courage to share about Him with them, too. Amen.
